ABOUT
At [ARRAY] we redefine lighting fixtures through material exploration. Our collection is designed by David Derksen and produced in our Rotterdam studio.
The inspiration for our lights comes from the intrinsic properties of materials, methods of construction, mathematical principles and the possibilities of LED technology. We draw equally from industrial processes and craftsmanship, allowing both to inform the final outcome.
Many of our fixtures can be customized, but we also develop bespoke lighting solutions in close collaboration with our clients. We are looking forward to hear about your project.
David Derksen
The natural sciences and specifically the characteristics of materials are David Derksen’s main sources of inspiration. The behaviour of materials and their processing and construction methods are the main focus of his work. In his designs he tries to express the beauty of materials and the way objects are made.
David Derksen graduated in 2009 at the Design Academy Eindhoven and completed his MSc degree in 2011 at Industrial Design TU Delft. During his studies he started his studio in Rotterdam where he works on new lighting, furniture and other interior products. He alternates between industrial design and more experimental projects where he is pushing the boundaries of materials. David Derksen works on self initiated projects as well as commissioned ones.
Since 2011 the studio presents itself every year at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The studio collaborates with Dutch and international furniture brands and galleries. In 2015 David Derksen has been nominated for the Young Designer Award as part of the Dutch Design Awards. In 2019 he started to work as a creative director for WL Ceramics, a porcelain manufacturer. In 2021 he started his own lighting collection [ARRAY].
